Built by one of Modesto's founding families, the McHenry's, McHenry Mansion is one of the Central Valley's iconic wedding venues. Built in 1883, the architectural style is High Victorian Italianate, which was very popular at the time. Now it retains it's Victorian design and charm with its decor of antique furniture and lace curtains.
The house was inhabited by various McHenry family members throughout the years until 1919, when it became a sanitarium. In 1923, the treatment facility moved out and the building was converted into apartments and remained so under various owners until 1976. The property was purchased by the Gallo family and gifted to the City of Modesto, under the agreement that the house would be restored and made available to the community for use. Restoration was a big job, and took place between 1977 and 1983. There was a second restoration between 2011 and 2013 due to a fire.
This venue can be rented for almost any kind of event, and is perfect for an intimate wedding. When renting the mansion, you have use of the entire property. The bride and bridesmaids get ready in an elaborate upstairs bedroom. The ceremony can be held in the Mansion's garden (200 person capacity) or across the street at McClatchy Square. The Mansion's garden lawn is an ideal reception space with lush flowers and plants and a covering of green trees. There is also a basement space available.
